RARE 1852 UNCLE TOM'S CABIN AMERICAN CARD GAME BY IVES. Very rare and historically important, 1852 Uncle Tom's Cabin American Hand Colored Boxed Card Game by W. and S. B. Ives titled " The Game of Uncle Tom and Little Eva". This fantastic, Pre Civil War Child's Card Game was published in the same year as Harriett Beecher Stowe's acclaimed novel and is one of the rarest and most sought after American Toy Card Games. Even the massive African-American Historical Archive of the John Hay Collection at Brown University owns only an incomplete and badly worn and soiled example of this important Anti-Slavery Card Game. The example offered here is complete with all playing cards including the "Justice" card containing the instructions and the copyright notice. It comes in its original, paste down label box which measures approx. 3" x 4" by 1" deep and features an elaborately printed, green coated stock all over label that has the rules of the Game on the reverse. The game pieces consist of 20, hand colored, illustrated cards that picture different White and Black Slave characters from Uncle Tom's Cabin. The 20 "character" cards are grouped into 4 "sections". The game play is similar to the modern game of "Go Fish" except that the object of the game is to accumulate the entire deck of cards.
